Carisse Phillips is a tubist who performs and teaches in the greater Baltimore/Washington DC area. In addition to teaching private music lessons, Ms. Phillips is a middle school orchestra director in Baltimore County Public Schools. She was a student of James Hicks at Towson University and received a dual Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and Music Performance, as well as a degree in Spanish literature.

Besides teaching music, Carisse has held teaching positions in an array of areas, including working as a music theory and Spanish tutor, teaching English lessons in Spain, acting as a fiber arts camp counselor through The Handwork Studio, and teaching exercise classes as a NETA certified fitness instructor. These diverse teaching experiences have honed her ability to adapt instruction to the needs of students of all ages, providing students with the structure and support to help them meet their own personal goals. Her approach to teaching focuses on using the strengths of each individual student to support their growth. She firmly believes that all people are capable of refining their musical knowledge and skills, and that consistency, dedication, and passion far outweigh any other factors in musical success.

Ms. Phillips is a member of the International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA), the International Women’s Brass Conference (IWBC), Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity (ΣAI), and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). In her free time, Carisse enjoys spending time with her family and cats, learning new languages, and experimenting with the fiber and sewing arts.
